Day 2: Hike to Mandara Hut, 2227 meters

You will start by driving from your hotel in Moshi and cross cultivation zone, Marangu village, heading to Marangu Gate, 1890 meters for about 1 hour’s drive. You will do registrations and meet your crew and you will start hiking to cover 8 kilometers about 3 - 4 hours crossing rain forest. Picnic lunch and drinking water will be provided on the way.

Day 3: Hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut, 3727 meters

This is a bit long day, about 10 kilometers’ walk and estimated time will be 5 - 6 hours. Lunch and drinking water will be provided on the way. Also, you will get to moorland zone and you will be able to view Kibo and Mawenzi peak from far.

Day 4: Horombo Hut 3727

Rest day at Horombo Hut with optional hike by Mawenzi Peak and Zebra rock lunch, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut 4720m

Today we will pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi then break for lunch box. Vegetation begins with upper heath land but then disappears into “moonscape”. Dinner, rest, and prepare for summit, distances to cover will be 10 km for 6-8 hours

Day 6: Kibo Camp to Summit 5895m then Horombo Hut 3727m

Early in the morning (midnight to 12:00am), commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman’s point located on the crater rim. Continuing, we now ascend to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa. There are unbelievable views at every turn. Have your picture taken at the summit to show your friends and family. From here we descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo hut. The beginning of this climb is done in the dark and requires headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you will need all of your warm layers. This is by far the most difficult part of the trek with many switchbacks. Going slowly “pole pole” and an optimistic attitude will get you there to 5895m, taking 6-8 hours for the distances of 6Km.

Day 7: Descend to Marangu gate 1890m
