Porto and Guimaraes / 2 days

Porto, drugie co do wielkości miasto Portugalii, słynie nie tylko z wytwarzanego tu od wieków trunku. To też plątanina brukowanych uliczek, przy których wznoszą się wykafelkowane kamienice, niebotycznie wysokie żelazne mosty czy kipiące złotem kościoły. Przede wszystkim uderza nas jednak jego bezpretensjonalność i prawdziwość zarówno przy nabrzeżu, jak i na wzgórzach katedry. Nie obyłoby się jednak bez wizyty w jednej z piwnic, gdzie słynne porto produkowane jest już od bez mała 300 lat! Jeszcze dalej na północ leży natomiast Guimarães - ukochane przez Portugalczyków. To tu była pierwsza stolica kraju i ulubione miejsce jego założyciela: Alfonsa Zdobywcy. Powiew historii możemy poczuć na głównym placu miasta otoczonym przez średniowieczne zakony, pałace i górujący nad krajobrazem zamek.

Porto is a charming riverside community whose historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire its graceful bridges, baroque cathedrals and romantic buildings nestled together on narrow cobbled streets. It will strike you with its genuineness and authenticity. On the other hand we will explore the other side of the river, Vila Nova de Gaia, with the 18th century wine cellars, where the wine is aged. Even further to the north of the country, there is another small city beloved by citizens, often referred to as the “birthplace of the Portuguese nation". For decades Guimarães was the favourite home to the first Portuguese kings, starting from the founding father - Afonso Henriques. Today we can see it's palaces and monasteries dating to the 10th century and explore a medieval quarter with narrow streets.
