Pilanesberg / Sun City 2 Day: BIG 5 and Sun Resort.

DAY 1

Pilanesberg is nestled in a crater of an extinct volcano that existed 1500 million years ago.

The crater is encompassed by 4 concentric rings of hills that rise 700 meters above the plains.

These hills known as the “Pilanesberg Game Reserve Alkaline Ring Complex”,are one of only three alkaline complexes in the world and best defined. (Greenland and Russia are the others). The complex shows enrichment of rare minerals and rock structures and is a fascinating geological phenomenon.

552 KM square in size.

Roads 200 km consisting of gravel, dirt and some tarred roads.

110 km peripheral fence erected.

Big Five Territory (Rhino, Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard).

Our day comprises of an early start a with a casual drive from PTA / JHB via the scenic Hartebeespoort Dam area with restaurants, markets and outdoor beauty spots all nestled within the Megaliesberg mountain rage.

Short stops can be arranged.

Once in the Pilanesberg we do an initial game drive then settle down for an outdoor lunch at a scenic view area overlooking the Mankwe Dam.

Consisting of a Braai (BBQ) and drink refreshments.

A vegetarian meal can be provided.

This area is enclosed and is traversed by foot.

After lunch we resume our game drive, stopping at game hides and the Pilanesberg centre for tea and snacks.

The centre has some gift shops, a restaurant and toilet facilities.

There is a “game spot map” present with up to date game spotting.

The outdoor deck that overlooks a water hole can give an excellent view of animals that may be present at your time of visit.

Some hides have toilet facilities.

We exit the reserve just before gate closure.

We then drive some 15 mins to your accommodation situated outside the reserve.

(Sun City accommodation can be alternatively arranged but at considerable extra cost).

Our accommodation consists of modern chalets with en suite facilities. Most have room kitchenettes, fridge units, microwaves etc. They all have private ground level patios.

There is a communal restaurant and large outdoor swimming pool.

Adventure golf and lots of outdoor facilities are also available.

DAY 2:

We arrange a departure time and check out.

Within 5 minutes we are at the entrance gates to Sun City.

Sun City:

In 1979 when Sun City was opened in the North West  to become the best holiday resort in South Africa, and for good reason.

Home to the Valley of Waves and sprawled along the border of the Pilanesberg National Park, Sun City Resort enjoys the fine distinction of being the only surf-and-safari destination within a two-hour drive of landlocked Johannesburg / Pretoria.

Entering as day guests, we then do a mini complex drive tour, then park up at the visitor car park.

We then walk to the visitor centre where you can arrange whatever you wish to do during your stay.

Our Chaperone will be close by and if needed, contactable by phone.

In the late afternoon, before gate closure, we will arrange to meet and drive you back to your drop off point.

COST 45 GBP PER PERSON, Deluxe accommodation can be arranged at extra cost. The accommodation is 2 km from Sun City / Pilanesberg gates and price is subject to time of booking.
