n 1550 St. Xavier arrived at Kyushu and evangelizing started in Nagasaki Pref. The current Nagasaki city was called a little Rome of Japan in those days. But from 17th century Old government introduced the National Seclusion Policy, banned the Christianity and persecuted Christian people. The Christianity went underground and they secretly maintained their faith for over 250 years. At last Japan opned up country and after people got their freedom of religion a lot of Churches were built in Nagasaki Pref. St. Kolbe OFM arrived in Nagasaki in 1930 and established the monastic order.
