7 Days ; Machame Route
The Machame route, known as the "Whiskey" route, is now the most popular route on the mountain.
Machame approaches from the southwest and descends using Mweka, rewarding climbers with views of the expansive Shira Plateau, an optional scramble up Lava Tower, a climb up the Great Barranco Wall, and a traverse underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern Icefield.
Day 1:
Machame Gate 1840m ->> Machame Hut 2980m > 9km > 6 - 7 hrs > up 1140m
Day 2:
Machame Hut 2980m ->> Shira Hut 3840m > 7km > 5 - 6 hrs > up 890m
Day 3:
Shira Hut 3840m ->> Barranco Camp 3950m > 10km > 6 - 7 hrs > up 700m down 600m
Day 4:
Barranco Camp 3950m ->> Barafu Hut 4600m > 8km > 7 - 8 hrs > up 650m
Day 5:
Barafu Hut 4600m ->> UHURU PEAK 5895m ->> Millennium Camp 3730m > 16km > 12 - 14 hrs > up 1295m down 2105m
Day 6:
Millennium Camp 3730m ->> Mweka Gate 1800m > 13km > 5 - 6 hrs > down 1650m
