The Cradle of Humankind was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 1999. This tour starts at the Maropeng Visitors Centre. It describes the facts about the evolution of the world and especially humankind, explained in an interactive way. It is especially entertaining for families with children and to those inquisitive minds. See fossils, learn how humankind evolved, view stone tools up to 1-million years old, and take a ride through the ‘ice age’ .From Maropeng we proceed to the Visitors Centre of the Sterkfontein Caves, where a permanent hominid exhibition is displayed. Paleontologists and archaeologists consider this to be one of the top archaeological sites in the world. A tour into the caves is included!
