INFORMATION ABOUT THE AREA

The Plitvice Lakes are the oldest, largest, and most visited national park in Croatia, with an area of over 294.82 hectares. The area became Croatia's first national park in 1949, and in 1979 the site was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list as a site of outstanding natural beauty.

Surrounded by a backdrop of monumental cliffs, Plitvice’s sixteen-lake network occupies various levels that gradually combine into the park’s iconic foaming waterfalls, which you’ll hear resonating throughout the many hidden caves dotted around the park.

Plitvice is also well known for its unique ecology: namely the uncommon Tufa stones which form in the lakes, due to the precise hydrological conditions and mineral content of the water.

There are two main entrances and one auxiliary entrance, so please keep aware of the correct stopping point.

Entrance One is at the north side of the park (close to the Great Waterfall) and Entrance Two can be found on the south side.
