Great tour along the Great Nikitskaya
Nikitskaya street – one of the oldest streets in Moscow. The street got its name in the XVI century from Nikitskij nunnery which had been located here long before. In Ivan the Terrible time Muscovites tried to avoid this district of Moscow, because they knew that there was the darkest institution, Oprichny Yard. Loyal king servants oprichniki terrified all Russian people not only with their brutal deeds, but with their appearance. They were dressed in black clothes and everyone was carrying a broom and a dog’s head. The broom was to sweep out treason, and the dog’s head was to sniff out and gnaw out betrayal.
