Namaste ! welcome to Nepal, in Annapurna region. Pokhara, Annapurna are located in west of Kathmandu valley. Pokhara is the starting and finishing point for some of the best Trekking in Nepal and the long Annapurna circuit trek is the most popular trekking in the country. The reasons for the area`s popularity are numerous. The Annapurna & Dhaulagiri range are very close to Pokhara. The treks in this part of the country offer a great deal of cultural and geographic diversity. Indeed the Jomsom and Annapurna circuit treks both go to the North of the Himalayan watershed in to the dry desert area which is properly part of the Tibetan plateau. Finally these treks are the best in Nepal. The Pokhara area also offers a numbers of short treks from 1 to 4 ,5 days treks. These are covered in the around Pokhara section of the Pokhara chapter. There are three popular longer treks from Pokhara. All of which follow the same route at some point. The Annapurna sanctuary trek, takes you right in among the mountains of the Annapurna range to the Machhapuchhre base camp. This trek takes about 10 to 12 days. The Jomsom trek takes 7 days in each direction, But it is possible to fly back to Pokhara from Jomsom. Most trekkers continue a day further to the holy temple of the Muktinath. Well to the North of the main Himalayan range. Finally the Annapurna circuit trek takes a full 3 weeks and completely encircles the Annapurna range. The last 7 days of the circuit walk from Muktinath to Pokhara are the same as the Jomsom trek., but in reverse. The Annapurna range is the center for all these Pokhara treks. For most of Nepal`s length the Himalaya form the border between Nepal and China. The Annapurna mountains are different in that the border is well to the North, So Jomsom and Annapurna circuit treks both go North of the Himalayan watershed, into the high altitude desert which is characteristic of the Tibetan plateau . Thank you !
