The small towns at the south foot of the Balkan Mountains range situated crosswise Balkan Peninsula, are like beads in a necklace: Koprivshtitsa, Sopot, Karlovo, Banya, Kalofer... They feature some of the architecture and spirit of the Bulgarian Revival (19th century), heroic history, fascinating folklore, and breathtaking environment of the Valley of Roses, where most of the world rose oil production comes from. Locals are friendly, accommodation is nice, prices are low, so you will feel at home..

Further eastwards in The Rose Valley, somewhere between the towns of Karlovo and Kazanlak, the ancient Thracian tombs and temples under mounds, which have been restored for the last decades, will give you a glance at the being and believes of the people that inhabited these land more than 21 centuries ago. And there are some fascinating annual events, which are worth special visits such as feasts of Rose and Lavender, and the Kukers ones.
