Monarch butterfly tour (Mexico city)
Declared a UNESCO protected natural site in 2008, it´s the green place where butterflies that leave Canada & the United States mountain areas in the fall come & hide in the woods of “El Rosario” sanctuary (Michoacán, Mexico), to hibernate from late November to March. Well preserved to present day by WWF & Monarch Watch among other NGO´s is now recovering from a serious reduced number of butterflies from the last 5 years. Note: It´s possible to customize tour to +3 people.
DAY 1. Transfer to Zitacuaro & Monarch butterfly tour
After leaving the hotel/airport in México City (MEX), the drive goes 2:30 hours to Zitacuaro, Michoacan, and beyond up to “El Rosario” natural reserve at Angangueo, Michoacan, where we hike for about 1 hour (horseback rides available) to see the millions of monarchs flying around. After lunch in site, we drive back to Zitacuaro, to stay overnight.
DAY 2. Transfer from Zitacuaro, Michoacan to Mexico City
After breakfast we drive 2:30 hours back to México City to drop you off at local hotel/airport.
