Medieval fair in Obidos
Obidos: This wonderful city of Portuguese kings traditionally gave their brides as a dowry, so Obidos anciently considered the city of the Portuguese Queens. It is elegant and cozy, romantic and so small that it looks more like an old box with cute trinkets than the city-fortress. Try here the famous liqueur "Ginja", served in chocolate cups.
Every year in Obidos there is a Medieval Fair, where you can see traditional portugues life of 14th century. The Medieval Market of Óbidos is an event of historical recreation that transforms the Town of Óbidos into a borough of the Middle Ages. For 16 days, boobies, fire spitters, dancers, musicians and joggers invade the village carrying the visitor to another dimension. The visitors also can rent the costumes and for the one day moove away to the past!
During Medieval Fair you can´t find the modern food or even metal spoon and fork - everything is just like in old ages: grilled meat on charcoal, soups, crepes with fruit or honey candies and different liqueurs: cherry, honey, blueberries and others.
