Thomas Sam is a tour guide in Colombo

In 2000 after nearly 10 years of guiding and lecturing Thomas attended courses run by The Tourist Board of Ceylon and passed with distinction, his licence no. is C655. The course covered a wide range of subjects including archeology, history, geology, ornithology, geography, theology, mythology, nature and wildlife studies and cultural studies.

Thomas has special interests in ornithology, he is a member of the Ornithological Club of Sri Lanka, and has attended courses and field trips held by OCS and taught by Professor Kotagama and on these was fortunate to see the elusive leopard and sloth bear, indiginous to Sri Lanka, in the Yala National Park.

"He showed great knowledge of all the sites and cultures of the places we visited. He would often stop and point out interesting wildlife, especially birds."

Thomas, a non-smoker, is a family man, his wife Ranjanie and he have a daughter Shannon, and they live about 20 miles south of Columbo.

Thomas has excellent language skills and a fine sense of humour which combined with his friendly personality and flexibility make him the perfect person to show you around when you are on holiday.
