Firdavs Melibaev is a local private tour guide in Uzbekistan
I had been a journalist for almost 15 years. And now I am a full-time guide and a tour operator in Samarkand. Love to meet new people, learn about different cultures. To me, it's a pleasure and collecting pieces of a huge puzzle, understanding the world, understanding oneself.
Living some period of my life in the USA and Russia has not only improved my language skills but also formed me as a cosmopolite person. However, the city I was born in has a vivid culture like the turquoise mosaics of ancient buildings of Samarkand.
Of course, in hot weather, it's better to take a car to travel around, but I don't mind and actually enjoy more walking through the city telling stories of the past to my guests. I prefer calling tourists guests. Being brought up in Uzbek family, I strongly believe that one should be always hospitable. The Uzbek proverb says: "Respect your guest, as you respect your father".
While telling the history of ancient Samarkand, Shahrisabz, Urgut, I rely on facts (journalistic habit) and of course share beautiful myths and legends which passed mouth-to-mouth through centuries.
And of course, the safety of guests is of my first concern. Although, Uzbekistan is one of the safest countries in the world. People are warm, hospitable and always helpful.
I enjoy my tours when my guests enjoy them. Only then I feel fulfillment at my work. This has become my lifestyle and commitment.
