Excursion to Alexandria
At 6:30 in the morning we'll leave from Cairo towards Alexandria, the most important Mediterranean city in Egypt.
We'll begin our tour of the Alexandria port, visiting the Qaitibay Citadel. This defensive complex was constructed in the 15th century by the Sultan Qaitibay, where the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood. The lighthouse was destroyed by several earthquakes, whose remains were then used to build the citadel.
Then we head to the south of the city, where we'll head to the Kom el Shoqafa Catacombs, where the relief artwork shows the fusion of Egyptian and Greco-Roman culture. We'll see its three different levels, to get to know its passages, tunnels and galleries along which the tombs of the necropolis are distributed. near these catacombs can be found Pompey's Pillar, just where the temple dedicated to the Greco-Egyptian God Serapis was once found.
after that we will visit the Roman Theater which is considered to be the senat of rome in Alexandria, and the serapium temple where we will find the bull god Abis and and the column of Popei!
We'll then enjoy lunch in the centre of Alexandria, with a menu including fish, and seafood rice. Then in the evening we'll see one of the most important modern buildings in the city: The New Alexandria Library. Built in homage to the library, built in the 3rd century BC and burnt down, perhaps during the Roman Civil War in 48 BC, which housed thousands of papyrus scrolls and was one of the world centres of scholarship and knowledge in the ancient world. Today the library, reinaugurated in 2002, is one of the most important cultural spaces in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Finally, late in the evening, we'll return to the hotels of Cairo.
Changes to the itinerary
The New Library of Alexandria will not be visited on Fridays and Saturdays as it is closed on these dates.

L’itinéraire
Nous quitterons Le Caire tôt le matin en direction d’Alexandrie, la plus importante ville méditerranéenne d’Égypte.
Vous commencerez le parcours au port d’Alexandrie pour visiter la vieille ville de Qaitbay. Ce complexe défensif a été construit au XVe siècle par le sultan Qaitbay, dans les environs du célèbre phare d’Alexandrie. De nombreux tremblements de terre ont détruit cette tour de guet, dont les vestiges ont étés utilisés pour édifier la vieille ville.
Par la suite, vous irez au sud de la ville, où vous entrerez dans les Catacombes de Kom el Shoqafa. Les bas-reliefs du site, les plus célèbres d’Alexandrie, incarnent la fusion entre la culture égyptienne et grécoromaine. Vous parcourrez les trois différents niveaux pour découvrir les passages secrets, les tunnels et les galeries tout au long desquels sont réparties les tombes de la nécropole. Tout près de ces catacombes, vous pourrez vous approcher de la colonne de Pompéi, située là où se trouvait le temple dédié au dieu gréco-égyptien Sérapis.
Vous profiterez ensuite d’un déjeuner dans le centre d’Alexandrie. Le menu inclut du poisson et du riz avec des fruits de mer. Dans l’après-midi, vous vous approcherez d’un des bâtiments modernes les plus édifiants de la ville : la Nouvelle Bibliothèque d’Alexandrie. Construite en hommage à l’espace antique qui réunissait des milliers de papyrus et de parchemins, ce monument contemporain a été inauguré en 2002 et constitue un des espaces culturels les plus importants de la Méditerranée orientale.

La Nouvelle Bibliothèque d’Alexandrie ne sera pas visitée les vendredis et samedis car elle est fermée à ces dates.

Itinerario
A las 6:30 horas saldremos de El Cairo en dirección Alejandría, la ciudad mediterránea más importante de Egipto.
Comenzaremos recorriendo el puerto alejandrino para visitar la Ciudadela de Qaitibay. Este complejo defensivo fue construido en el siglo XV por el sultán Qaitibay, justo en el mismo lugar donde se alzaba el famoso Faro de Alejandría. Varios terremotos destruyeron la atalaya, cuyos restos sirvieron para edificar la Ciudadela.
A continuación nos desplazaremos al sur de la ciudad, donde accederemos a las Catacumbas de Kom el Shoqafa. Los bajorrelieves del yacimiento, uno de los más destacados de Alejandría, muestran la fusión entre la cultura egipcia y la grecorromana. Nos internaremos en sus tres diferentes niveles para conocer los pasadizos, túneles y galerías a lo largo de las cuales se distribuyen las tumbas de la necrópolis. Muy cerca de estas catacumbas hallaremos la Columna de Pompeyo, situada en el lugar donde se ubicaba el templo dedicado al dios greco-egipcio Serapis.
Después disfrutaremos de un almuerzo en el centro de Alejandría. El menú incluirá pescado y arroz de marisco. Por la tarde, nos acercaremos hasta uno de los edificios modernos más relevantes de la ciudad: la Nueva Biblioteca de Alejandría. Surgida como homenaje al antiguo espacio que reunía miles de papiros y pergaminos, este edifico contemporáneo reinaugurado en 2002 constituye uno de los espacios culturales más importantes del Mediterráneo oriental.
A última hora de la tarde regresaremos finalmente a los hoteles de El Cairo.
Cambios en el itinerario
Los viernes y sábados no se realizará la visita a la Nueva Biblioteca de Alejandría ya que permanece cerrada en estas fechas.
