Detailed Plan

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM: Ride to the Center of Art

The day starts with picking you up at your hotel in Kathmandu. You will take a ride through the city streets. You can see people going to work and the old buildings that line the roads. The trip feels like a move from the busy city into a more peaceful place. Soon, you will arrive in Boudhanath. This place has one of the biggest stupas in Nepal. A stupa is a large, dome-shaped building for worship. Boudhanath is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a hub for Tibetan Buddhism. Its calm and deep feel is the perfect spot for this art trip. You will feel the spirit of the place as soon as you step out of the car. The smell of incense and the sound of prayer flags fill the air.

9:30 AM - 1:00 PM: The Way of the Artist

You will walk to a well-known Thanka painting school and workshop near the stupa. A master artist will greet you and be your guide for the whole day. The day starts with a warm cup of tea. This is a time to relax and learn about the world of Thanka art. You will hear about the history of the art form and its meaning. The master will show you how to get a canvas ready for painting. You will see the natural colors made from ground rocks and plants. These colors are not just for looks; they each have a special meaning. The master will also talk about the strict rules for drawing. Each drawing must follow a clear plan with perfect lines and shapes.

After the talk, it is your turn to pick up a brush. The workshop gives you a canvas with a simple design already on it. The design may be the Buddha's eyes or a lotus flower. These are simple shapes that are easy to follow. The master will show you how to draw the lines first. This is a quiet and focused part of the day. You will then learn how to put on the first layers of color. You will feel how each line and color adds to the whole piece. This part of the day requires your full focus. The process helps you to feel a deep sense of calm.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: A Taste of Nepali Food

You will take a break for lunch. You will eat a real Nepali meal at a restaurant on a rooftop. The view from the roof will be great. You will be able to see the big Boudhanath Stupa from above. The meal is often dal bhat, which is lentil soup with rice and a few side dishes. It is a healthy and good tasting meal. This is a time to talk more with your guide. You can ask them about Nepali life, beliefs, and what makes this place special.

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Making Your Art Real

In the afternoon, you will go back to the workshop. This is where you will learn a new skill: shading. Shading adds dark and light parts to your painting. This makes your flat drawing look like it has depth and dimension. The master will show you how to blend the colors. You will learn to make the colors soft and light in some places and dark in others. This part of the process is even more focused than the morning. It is a time to think about the meaning of the colors and shapes you are using. The master will tell you stories about the gods and symbols you are painting. You will feel the true link between the art and its purpose. By the end of this time, your painting will be done and look full of life.

4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: See More Art and Home

When your painting is done, you will have time to see the workshop's gallery. The gallery has a large group of Thankas made by master artists. You can look at the fine lines and bright colors of these pieces. You will see drawings of many gods and shapes. It is a chance to see how great the skill is. You might also want to buy a larger, more complex painting. Your guide will drive you back to your hotel. You will take your painting with you. It is a great thing to have from your trip. You will have a better sense of Nepal's culture and art.
