Escape Stone Town on a scenic 30-minute motorized dhow ride to Changuu Island, famously known as Prison Island, for a perfect mix of history, wildlife, and relaxation.
Your excursion begins at the Giant Tortoise Sanctuary, where you will get up close and personal with the island’s most famous residents. You can hand-feed and photograph these gentle Aldabra giants, many of whom are over 150 years old!
Next, travel back in time by exploring the historic colonial ruins. Originally built as a prison complex in 1894, the site was ultimately repurposed as a critical yellow fever quarantine station for East Africa.
Conclude your trip by relaxing on the pristine white-sand beach and walking along the wooden pier.
