In 1380, Prince Dimitry Donskoy of Moscow came here to seek St. Sergius` blessing before liberating his native land from the Mongol yoke. “In the land of Moscow and all over the world there is no other monastery equal to this one…” - Archdeacon Paul of Aleppo wrote after his visit to the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra in the 17th century. Nowadays, the Holy Trinity Lavra is the main acting Orthodox monastery in Russia which has always played a significant role in the history of the country.
