Essential Toledo
If it is your first time visiting Toledo, you will feel the need to understand the city, find your way around and absorb its essence. There is no better way to do this than to explore the city´s historic core and discover its monuments and most significant works of art:
- The Cathedral, Must-see monument in a city where the archbishop holds the Primacy of Spain and where the Cathedral is one of the richest and most spectacular in the country.
- Church of Santo Tomé and the “Burial of the Lord of Orgaz”. Never been moved from its original spot, El Greco’s masterpiece was painted especially for this chapel.
- Synagogue of El Tránsito. A glowing example of the mark made by the Sephardic Jews in Toledo and a monument, along with the Cathedral, which mustn’t be missed.
- Franciscan Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, Intended as the burial place of the Catholic Monarchs, its luxury and decor are worthy of those very monarchs that constituted Spain.
