Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu

Arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport and complete the visa process. You will find one of our team representatives at the terminal gate holding your nameplate. He will take you to the hotel. In the evening, you meet with other team members over traditional welcome dinner and end your day enjoying the cultural dance.

Day 02: Sightseeing and preparation day

We have arranged a guided sightseeing tour for you. You will be accompanied by a professional tour guide who will brief you about the landmarks. You will visit places like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhuanth, Boudhnath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,800 m) & trek to Phakding (2,652 m); 40 mins flight; 3/4 hrs trek

Lukla is the starting point of our trek. To reach here, you will take a short thrilling flight. The flight offers distant views of Himalayas. Upon landing at Lukla, you meet with other team members and head towards Phakding. From Lukla, the trail descends along with a stream and passes through Cheplung village before reaching Phakding.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440 m); 5/6 hrs

Crossing Dudh Koshi River multiple times over bridges, you reach Benkar village. Further, you cross more bridges and reach Monjo village. The trail from here goes through Sagarmatha National Park, which is the habitat of numerous flora and fauna. The trail from the park is steep and difficult. Namche Bazar will welcome you with a stunning view of Lhotse, Everest, Tawache, and other mountains.

Day 05: Rest day

Today, you will take a day break to adjust yourself with the altitude. You go on short hikes to nearby places like Everest View Hotel, Khumjung village, etc. Later, in the day, visit Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery. Also, don't forget to explore Namche Bazar, its small yet vibrant market.

Day 06: Trek to Debuche

From Namche Bazar, the trail passes through small villages and dense forests of rhododendron. You get to enjoy beautiful views of Himalayan mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Mt. Lhotse. Taking a small break at Phungi Tenga, you reach Tengboche village, where you will visit the oldest monastery of the Khumbu region, Tengboche monastery. Later, you descend to Debuche for a night stay.

Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4,360 m); 5/6 hrs

Crossing the Imja River, you trek and reach Pangboche. From here, the trail ascends towards Imja Valley and move along the Lobuche River. Looking over scenic views, you reach Dingboche for a night stay.

Day 08: Rest day

Today is a rest day at Dingboche. You will explore the village and go on a short hike. You will ascend to Nagarjun Hill from where you can see stunning views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makali, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Cholatse, Mt. Tawache, etc. Dingboche is also known as the Summer Valley of Khumbu region. You get to see lovely views of buckwheat, potatoes, and barley.

Day 09: Trek to Lobuche (4,930m); 5/6 hrs

The trail leads to Dugla. From here, you walk on the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier and passes through boulder-strewn slopes. You then climb up to Chupki Lhara and continue towards the Khumbu Glacier moraine. The trail soon takes you to Lobuche for a night stay.

Day 10: Hike up to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and trek back to Gorak Shep (5,170 m); 6/7 hrs

Today, wake up early in the morning and ascend towards Everest Base Camp via Gorak Shep. Make sure to follow the lead of your guide carefully as the trail can get misleading. Ascending through rocky dunes, moraines, and streams, you reach Everest Base Camp. From the base camp, you get to see panoramic views of the Himalayas. Spending some time, you descend to Gorak Shep for night stay.

Day 11: Trek to Lobuche (4,930m)

Following the same trail, you trek back to Lobuche. On the way, you get to see wonderful views of the Himalayan landscape.

Day 12: Trek to Chhukung (4,730m) crossing Kongma La (5,535m); 6/7 hrs

The trail ascends towards Khumbu glacier and turns to Kongma La base camp. From here, ascending on a steep rocky trail, you reach the top of the pass. Further, the trail descends to Imja Khola Valley and then continues to drop down to Chhukung.

Day 13: Ascend to Island Peak Base Camp (5,200m); 3/4 hrs

From here onwards, you move towards the Island Peak. The trail gradually ascends towards Island Peak Base Camp. Passing through the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines, you reach a wide valley flanking the southwest side of Island Peak.

Day 14: Spare day

There is no guarantee of stable weather in the high altitude. The weather can change at any time. Therefore, we have kept a couple of spare days aside that can be useful in emergency situations or flight delays. Moreover, not everyone reaches the base camp at the same time. Therefore, this spare day can help you to wait for other team members before returning back.

Day 15: Summit day & back to base camp (6,189m); 10/12 hrs

From base camp, you ascend along a sandy path, and further, passes through a grassy area. The trail than includes a rugged path and takes you to the high camp. The trail then climbs up through rock gully. Passing through several rock steps, you reach the right side of the gully. Following a ridgeline, you slowly ascend to the summit. Your guide will fix the rope whenever required. After a successful climb, you descend to base camp.

Day 16: Trek to Pangboche (3,985m); 5/6 hrs

Descend through the wide valley of Khumbu Khola and passes through Orsho village and Shomare village. You can take a different path as well which leads to a gompa located in Upper Pangboche.

Day 17: Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440m); 4/5 hrs

From Pangboche, the trail descends to Imja Khola and ascends through lush forests towards Tengboche. From here, you descend through dense forests of juniper and rhododendron and cross a bridge over Dudh Koshi to reach Sansa. The trail then passes through another forest and takes you to Namche Bazar.

Day 18: Trek to Phakding

After having breakfast, you begin descending through the national park. Crossing several small villages and streams, you reach Phakding for night stay.

Leaving Phakding behind, you ascend through forests path along a stream and reach Lukla.

Today, you fly back to Kathmandu enjoying the last views of the Himalayas. Upon landing at Kathmandu, you head to the hotel.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) Symptoms & Prevention

Acute mountain sickness is an illness that occurs due to high elevation. It generally happens if your body is not acclimatized with the altitude. Also known as altitude sickness, it can happen to anyone regardless of their health and physical condition. Read below to know more about its symptoms and preventive measures.

Best time to go to Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp

The best time to go on Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp is from March to May and October to November. These months include two seasons, spring & autumn. The clear sky, constant weather, and moderate climate attract hundreds of trekkers and climbers.

Likewise, heavy rainfall during monsoon (June to September) and extreme cold and snowfall during winter (December to February) makes the trail risky and views unclear. Therefore, these months are not an ideal option to go on Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp.

During Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp, you stay overnight in lodge and camp. In the villages, your accommodation will be a lodge that offers basic facilities with a twin-sharing room and common washrooms. Likewise, during the climbing, you stay overnight in camps. Our porters will carry sleeping camp, dining camp, and washroom camp up to the base camp of Island Peak.

Food & Water on Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp

In the lodge, the meals will be served as per their menu. You will have a wide variety of food options in lower villages than at higher altitudes. You can expect to get dishes like momo, pasta, sandwich, noodles, curries, egg, meat, rice, bread, pudding, porridge, pizza, etc. There will be also a good variety of beverages at the lower altitude. During camping, the meals will be prepared by our trained porters. 

Drinking water is available in all lodge. You can refill your bottle every time it gets empty. There is also the option to buy water bottles, however, we recommend to not buy it and carry your water bottle. This will help a lot to preserve the environment and reduce waste.
