Marangu Route - ("Coca Cola"):

Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, the Marangu route is a classic trek on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest, most well established route. Many favor the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope. It is also the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations.

The minimum days required for this route is five, although the probability of successfully reaching the top in that time period is quite low. Spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain is highly recommended when climbing Kilimanjaro using the Marangu route.

However, despite its immense popularity, we avoid leading climbs on the Marangu route. The route has the least scenic variety of all the routes because the ascent and descent are done on the same path and it is the most crowded route for that reason. Marangu is favored only during the rainy season, where the hut accommodations are preferred over wet ground, or for those who only have five days to climb Kilimanjaro.

We emerge from the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, through heathland, looking for giant lobelias and groundsels. Continue up into open moorlands where small shrubs are the main vegetation. Stop halfway for lunch, to enjoy amazing views of Mawenzi. Arrive at the Horombo Huts late afternoon beneath the spectacular Kibo Summit and Mawenzi viewpoint. Temperatures begin to drop. Here you have dinner and overnight.

Here while we stop for lunch, and later when you cross this surprisingly large saddle, you can examine the summit climb up Kibo that you will be starting in just a few hours. After arriving at Kibo hut you will have light dinner, final brief for the night summit then have few hours for sleeping up to mid night.

DAY 4: KIBO HUTS – SUMMIT: 7.5km - 7hrs| – HOROMBO HUTS: 11km – 4-5 Descending hrs. - Glaciers, Snow Capped Summit

Elevation: 4750m to 5895m Descent to 3720m

Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 12:00 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek but with mental determination..

We continue our way to the summit in a switchback formation through trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion, we ascend through heavy scree sand and possibly snow towards Gillman’s Point(5,685m) on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. It will be demanding you another one hour ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), you are likely to encounter snow all the way.

Congratulations, one step at a time you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!

After photos, celebrations we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep descent down to Kibo hut for late breakfast or brunch and a very brief rest. After a while we continue with the descent to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
