The belief was that Osiris, after being murdered by his brother Set, was buried in Abydos, leading to its importance as a burial site and a place of pilgrimage.
Dendera is situated around 60 kilometers north of Luxor, Abydos is located in Upper Egypt, about 11 kilometers west of the Nile.
