5 Days Kilimanjaro Climb – Marangu Route
The Marangu Route, also known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is the most popular and one of the easiest paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m/19,341ft). Unlike other routes, Marangu provides hut accommodations with basic amenities, making it a preferred choice for climbers who want a less rugged experience.
Day 1: Moshi – Marangu Gate (1,860m) – Mandara Hut (2,700m)
Your journey begins with a hotel pickup in Moshi followed by a drive to Marangu Gate for registration and briefing. After completing the formalities, you’ll start a 3-5 hour trek through a beautiful rainforest rich in wildlife and bird species. You’ll arrive at Mandara Hut, where you’ll rest, enjoy dinner, and stay overnight.
Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720m)
After an early breakfast, you’ll continue trekking for 5-7 hours through moorland terrain with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak. You’ll reach Horombo Hut, your resting place for the night, where you’ll be served a warm meal before settling in.
Day 3: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,703m)
Today’s trek takes approximately 5-7 hours, covering a semi-desert landscape as you ascend toward Kibo Hut, the final base before the summit push. After dinner, you’ll rest early to prepare for the midnight ascent.
Day 4: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut
Around midnight, you’ll begin the most challenging part of the climb, trekking through steep and rocky terrain toward Gilman’s Point (5,685m). After a short rest, you’ll continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa! Celebrate your achievement before descending back to Horombo Hut for overnight rest.
Day 5: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi
After breakfast, you’ll descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will then transfer you back to Moshi, marking the end of your adventure.
