Samburu National Reserve
A 3-day adventure in Samburu National Reserve begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, journeying through Kenya's scenic countryside with views of Mount Kenya en route. Upon arrival at Samburu, you check in to your lodge and enjoy a buffet lunch before heading out for your first afternoon game drive. This initial drive offers an introduction to the strikingly beautiful arid landscape and the reserve’s unique wildlife, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk, all commonly found only in this northern region. After wildlife viewing along the lifeline of the Ewaso Nyiro River, you return to your lodge ( Sopa Lodge) for dinner and an overnight stay.
On the second day, you start with an early morning game drive to witness wildlife during their most active hours, potentially spotting elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and more. The day is spent exploring different parts of the reserve with either a full-day game drive and picnic lunch or morning and afternoon drives punctuated with a relaxing break for lunch and time to unwind at your accommodation. Birdwatchers delight in observing Samburu’s rich avifauna, while those inclined toward culture can opt for a visit to a local Samburu or Maasai village to learn about traditional customs and attire. Evening returns you to your lodge for another delicious dinner under the African sky.
On your final day, set out on one last sunrise game drive to capture memorable wildlife moments and the reserve’s gorgeous morning light. After breakfast, you check out and begin the return journey to Nairobi, arriving by afternoon with memories of Samburu's rare wildlife, dramatic settings, and cultural encounters enriching your Kenyan safari experience.
