Durata 5 ore

Pedra da Gávea is one of the most iconic monoliths in Rio de Janeiro, rising 844 meters above sea level. From its summit, you will enjoy a breathtaking 360‑degree view of the city, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains – including the Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf, and the Tijuca Forest. This is not just a hike; it is a journey to one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the planet.

Technical Information:

Elevation: 844 m (2,769 ft)

Total hiking time (round trip): approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on your pace and photo stops.

Difficulty: Moderate. The trail is well‑marked and does not require technical climbing gear. It is considered safe and accessible for adventurous travelers with average fitness. There are no exposed precipices or dangerous sections – just a steady, scenic uphill walk through lush Atlantic Forest.

What to bring: Comfortable hiking shoes, light long‑sleeved clothing, a hat, sunscreen, and at least 1.5 liters of water per person. A light snack is also recommended.

The Trail Experience:

The path begins at the base of the mountain, winding through dense vegetation, with occasional clearings that reveal glimpses of the coastline. As you ascend, the forest canopy opens up, and the city gradually appears below you. The final stretch is a gentle scramble over large boulders – nothing technical, just a fun and rewarding effort. Along the way, we will stop to identify native plants, spot birds, and learn about the geological history of this massive rock formation.

The View from the Top:

Once at the summit, you will be rewarded with one of Rio’s most memorable panoramas. To the south, the endless blue of the Atlantic Ocean; to the east, the beaches of São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca; to the north, the dense Tijuca National Park; and to the west, the distant peaks of the Serra dos Órgãos. It is a photographer’s paradise and a perfect spot to rest and take in the immense scale of Rio’s landscape.

Practical Details:

Meeting point: To be arranged (we can meet near the trail entrance in the Barra da Tijuca area).

Tour duration: Approximately 5 hours total (3 hours hiking + 1 hour at the summit + transport and prep).
