During this day trip we will visit Tepelene fortress built by Ali Pasha Tepelena. It is visited by many notable people of the time among them the British Poet Lord Byron. The town is located on the left shore of the Vjosa River on a plateau above the river.

Gjirokaster is the next place to be visited. It is located in a valley between the Wide mountains and the Drino river valley. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, described as "a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, built by farmers of large estate".

The "pass of the bazaar" as the locals call it, is the heart of the old town with a lot of art crafts and handmade souvenirs shops, nice little taverns and restaurants.

The Castle dominates the town and overlooks the strategically important route along the river valley, which has existed in various forms since before the 12th century. Today it possesses five towers and houses, the new Gjirokastër Museum, a clock tower, two teke, a cistern, the stage of the National Folk Festival.
