Catedral de Sevilla
They dreamed, why not, that one day it would be the best Chair of the Archbishop of Seville and future Patriarch of the Indies; that the most splendid liturgical cult of the Seville metropolis be celebrated in it; that amazed its visitors walking under its Gothic vaults, discovering its multiform iconography (painting, sculpture, goldsmithing, fabrics, choral books, stained glass windows), filling the most diverse Gothic and Renaissance chapels, to later find themselves, in the backwater of the Patio de los Naranjos, with the bibliographical and documentary jewels that are guarded in the Chapter Archive and Library, porch of a singular sanctum sanctorum: the Colombina Library. Stone by stone they see that impressive “hollow mountain” grow, under the severe gaze of the Giralda, lady of Seville.
Soñaban, por qué no, que un día fuera la mejor Cátedra del Arzobispo de Sevilla y futuro Patriarca de la Indias; que en ella se celebrara el más esplendoroso culto litúrgico de la metrópoli hispalense; que asombrara a sus visitantes al caminar bajo sus bóvedas góticas, al descubrir su multiforme iconografía, (pintura, escultura, orfebrería, tejidos, libros corales, vidrieras), llenando las más diversas capillas góticas y renacentistas, para llegar después a encontrarse, en el remanso del Patio de los Naranjos, con las joyas bibliográficas y documentales que se custodian en el Archivo y Biblioteca Capitular, pórtico de un singular sancta sanctorum: la Biblioteca Colombina. Piedra a piedra ven crecer esa impresionante “montaña hueca”, bajo la severa mirada de la Giralda, señora de Sevilla.
