Shishapangma Expedition Overview
Shishapangma Expedition is one of the most popular expedition routes in Nepal. Shishapangma, the fourteen tallest mountain in the world, stands tall at 8,027m (8.027 km). It falls in the southern part of Tibet and is the tallest peak within the Jugal Himal.
People believe that due to heavy snowfall, the livestock of this area were all dead, and the locals had to survive on meats and dregs. Thus they named the mountain ‘Shishapangma,’ which means ‘dead animals’ meat and dregs of malt’ in the Tibetan language. The name also represents the ‘tuft that lies above the meadows’ while translating into Tibetan dialect.
The mountain is known as the ‘Gosainthan’ in Nepal and India which means the ‘whereabouts of the saints’ in the Sanskrit language. The Shishapangma has two summits, the ‘Central Peak,’ and the ‘Main Peak.’
This mountain has fewer challenges in its routes, and the expedition is more approachable. Shishapangma Expedition has no or fewer technical climbing, making it easier to climb than other mountains measuring more than 8,000m. However, the climbers have to go through a difficult route while moving from the central peak to the main peak.
People often use this mountain to gather experience of the thin air at high altitudes. This is a stepping stone for climbing other harder mountains. Also, the magnificent view seen from its summit is another treat to your eyes and heart. The climb to Mt. Shishapangma provides a heartwarming experience for its climbers and a great escape from their day-to-day hustle. However, the climb becomes a bit difficult.
