Khaptad National Park Trek
The Khaptad National Park Trek is a hidden gem in the far-western region of Nepal. It's a moderate trek that takes you through some of the most beautiful and unspoiled parts of the country. The park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including rolling green hills, moorlands, steep slopes, streams, oak and pine forests, rhododendron forests, and over 287 species of birds.
The trek is typically 7-10 days long, depending on your route and preferences. The trails are well-maintained and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The highest point of the trek is around 3,300 meters.
Khaptad National Park has a huge variety of flora. It is like a green carpet rolling down from steep slopes to moorland. The view and the feel of being there is absolutely incomparable and will take travellers to a different place. It supports around 67 species of flora, which harmoniously coexist here. Few of the flora includes rhododendron forests, oak and pine forests.The Khaptad national park map display a great variety of flora also. It has 23 species of mammals and 287 types of birds. This national park is great seeing mammals like leopard, Himalayan black bear, wild dog and musk deer. As it supports a huge number of birds, travellers can see birds like Impeyan pheasant (danphe; Nepalese national bird), Peregrine falcon, the white rumped vulture and many types of partridges, flycatchers, bulbuls, cuckoos and eagles. Khaptad area is known as the ground-heaven of far west Nepal. Known for its natural beauty and biological diversity, Khaptad area can be reached through Doti, Achham, Bajang and Bajura District of Nepal. It is easier to reach Khaptad area through Bajhang and Doti District. In addition; its natural varieties, the Khaptad National Park is very renowned religious place as it is the domicile of Hindu guru "Khaptad Swami" or "Khaptad Baba", a renounced hermit. Khaptad Baba lived here for many years and found out many healing herbal plants. He meditated in Khaptad area for long time and reserved five km area for the meditation and tranquility.
Khaptad Lake and wonderful view of Api and Saipal Himal range are of special interest for the tourists. The biggest carnival known as Ganga Dashahara Carnival gets held in Khaptad on 14 Jestha of Nepali month that falls in the last week of May. For the tourists, the carnival is a great opportunity to see far western culture and lifestyle. Butchering, alcohol and tobacco are forbidden in his area
