Bove Valley and Mount Etna Hiking Tour

The excursion will allow us to climb from 1800 to 1970 meters following 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥'𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡, one of the most beautiful routes that can be done in the 𝐄𝐭𝐧𝐚 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤.

Its name has a lot to do with a rock formation that we will see during the walk... Curious?

Along the way, we will pass through pine forests, see ancient solidified lava flows and 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐚

As we walk, I will explain how Etna and its caves were formed and I will tell you how its landscapes have changed throughout history. We will also delve deeper into the links of this colossal volcano with the culture and lifestyle of Sicily.

Once we reach the end of the path, we will admire the Valle del Bove, 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐭𝐧𝐚.

The volcanic sand gives this area a desert-like appearance that many compare to a lunar landscape. We will take some beautiful photos together!

After admiring the incredible panoramic views that Etna offers, we will begin our descent. We will walk next to the Schiena dell'Asino, enjoying the landscape of the Valle del Bove from a different perspective.

We will also pass near 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝 (𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐮𝐧, 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭!) and we will see a volcanic cave: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐬.

We will finish the hiking route returning to the starting point after approximately three hours depending on the pace of the group.

Almost 3 hours (starting activity at 9:30am)

Length: 5,5km

It includes:

- Visit to Etna with an environmental hiking guide;

- Bove Valley;

- Pythagora's cave

- Explanations of Etna and insights into current eruptions

I suggest to bring with you:

- high soaks (possibly not white);

- sport shoes, or hiking boots;

- a sweater in case of cold;

- 1/2 liters per each;

- something to nibble during the hike
