Welcome to an unforgettable journey back in time! Just an hour's drive from the bustling streets of Dhaka lies a hidden treasure called Panam Nagar, often known as the "Lost City" of Bengal. If you are tired of the city's noise and want to experience the haunting beauty of ancient ruins, this tour is designed specifically for you. As your local guide, I will take you through the silent streets of a once wealthy merchant town and show you the soul of ancient Bengal.

What We Will Explore:

1. Panam Nagar (The Lost City):

The heart of our tour is Panam Nagar. Panam Nagar traces its origins to the 13th century. Once a thriving commercial centre, it declined in the 17th century following the relocation of the capital from Sonargaon. The area experienced a revival in the 19th century when wealthy Hindu merchants redeveloped it during the British colonial period, revitalising its commercial importance as a hub for cotton fabric trade. However, the partition of India and riots in 1964 led to its abandonment. Despite subsequent occupation, Panam Nagar was eventually freed and declared an archaeological site in the 2000s. Today, it stands as a collection of dilapidated buildings along a single street, with ongoing restoration efforts aimed at preserving its rich historical legacy. It stands as a single street lined with more than 50 abandoned mansions. Each building tells a story of grandeur, with unique architectural styles that mix Mughal and British Colonial designs. We will walk through this "ghost town," and I will help you capture stunning photos of the terracotta walls and broken balconies. It is a dream spot for photographers and history buffs.

2. Sonargaon Folk Arts and Crafts Museum:

After exploring the ruins, we will head to the nearby Sonargaon museum. This place is located in a beautiful building called Sadarbari. Here, you will see how ancient Bengalis lived, their traditional jewelry, wooden crafts, and the famous Muslin cloth. The museum is surrounded by lush green gardens and a peaceful lake, offering a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Bangladesh.
