Polotsk is the oldest city in Belarus and the oldest city of Kievan Rus. Polotsk is associated with the activities of such outstanding individuals as Rogvolod, Efrosinia Polotskaya, Vseslav Charodey, Francis Skaryna, Simeon Polotsky and many others.

Polotsk is also the religious center of Belarus. And the main attraction attracting thousands of tourists is the St. Sophia Cathedral. The temple was built in the XI century, but due to numerous wars repeatedly rebuilt. To date, only the apse, the oldest stone building on the territory of Belarus, has remained from the original cathedral.

Polotsk today is the center of cognitive tourism. The unique museum of Belarusian printing in Polotsk acquaints visitors with the history of the origin and development of writing. Museum of traditional hand weaving in Poozerye is dedicated to hand weaving in the districts of Vitebsk region. Also, within the framework of tourism and leisure in Belarus, an excursion to Polotsk involves visiting the monuments of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Francisk Skaryna, Simeon Polotsky, Vseslav Charodey. Very unusual is the monument to the letter "Ў" in Polotsk. Not far from Polotsk, near Lake Shaw, scientists have established the location of the geographical center of Europe. However, the symbolic sign is located in Polotsk in the central avenue of F. Skaryna.

About the events of the war of 1812 reminds the Red Bridge - the place of the battle of the Russian troops with the French. Many monuments in the city, dedicated to the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. One of them - the memorial complex of the Mound of Immortality, was poured by the inhabitants of Polotsk on the bank of the Western Dvina in memory of 150,000 inhabitants of Polotsk, mercilessly killed by the Nazis in the war years.

Another unique place is the Savior-Euphrosynevsky Monastery in Polotsk, which includes the Transfiguration Church, Holy Cross Cathedral, the Belfry Gate. A monastery was built in the 12th century at the request of the prioress Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The Savior-Transfiguration Church has preserved the frescoes of the 12th century, the relics of the first Belarusian Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk, as well as a copy of the cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The presence of a large number of monuments of religious architecture makes Polotsk a center of pilgrimage for Orthodox believers.
