Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Tichka pass – Ouarzazate – Zagoura – Erg El Yahoudi dunes
The day starts with a transfer via 4×4 from Marrakech to Erg El Yahoudi in the Sahara Desert. It’s a long drive across the south of the country, passing over the Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass (2260m). We’ll pause for lunch in the city of Ouarzazate (Moroccan Hollywood) and then, continue across the Draa valley to Zagora. Here, we’ll stop to stretch then continue on for a 9-hour drive towards your camp in Erg El Yahoudi
Day 2: Erg El Yahoudi – Ouedn’Ame
You start your trek, after breakfast, to Ouedn’Ame, walking west across a large plateau, stopping for lunch under Acacia trees. Then you carry on to your campsite at Ouedn’Ame. (2/4h walk)
Day 3: Ouedn’Ame – Oued Latache
After breakfast in Ouedn’Ame we head towards Oued Latache. You’ll trek through sand dunes, and meet groups of camels herding near Tamaris trees. Your night will be spent in a bivouac after 5 hours of walking.
Day 4: From Oued Latache to Chagaga dunes
After breakfast, we’ll take a long trek through a very remote desert area and have lunch under palm trees in FamTiza. After that you continue across very rocky small hills towards the large plateau of Chagaga where you’ll spend your night. (6h walk)
Day 5: From Chegaga dunes to Bougarn
After breakfast we’ll trek east across a large plateau to get to the other side of Oued Latache, where you will have lunch before you head towards the direction of Bougarn where your camp for the night is located. (5h walk)
Day 6: From Bougarn to Mhamid village
After breakfast it’s up and over the sand dunes across a breathtaking and quiet area, stopping in Mhamid. We’ll then transfer back to Ouarzazate via a 4×4. We’ll grab lunch in Zagora on the way, then, spend the night in a three star hotel in Ouarzazate.
Day 7: From Ouarzazate to Marrakech
After an early breakfast, the crew will load the car then you’ll start the long journey back to Marrakech with a few rest stops on the way to enjoy the views and have lunch/drinks. The drive takes you past the Unesco World Heritage Site, Ait Ben Haddou (famous for being used as a film location for movies such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and the famous HBO series Game of Thrones) there, we’ll visit its famous Kasbah (Fortress). We’ll carry on to the El Glaoui Kasbah in Telouat, and then have lunch near the Tizi-n-Tichka pass before continuing on a 6 hour drive to Marrrakesh.
