Abu Simbel Temple Day Trip
3:30 AM – Pick Up from Hotel in Aswan
Departure: You’ll be picked up early from your hotel in Aswan in an air-conditioned vehicle, as the drive to Abu Simbel takes about 3 to 4 hours. This early departure ensures you arrive before the heat of the day and also gives you a chance to enjoy the stunning sunrise over Lake Nasser.
If you're joining a guided tour, you’ll be traveling with other guests and have a professional guide on board for the journey.
7:00 AM – Arrival at Abu Simbel
Duration: 30 minutes for initial introduction
You’ll arrive at Abu Simbel, located near Lake Nasser. Upon arrival, your guide will provide an overview of the temples and their historical significance.
The site consists of two temples: the Great Temple of Ramses II (the larger of the two) and the Temple of Nefertari, dedicated to Ramses II's wife.
7:30 AM – Explore the Great Temple of Ramses II
Duration: 1 hour
The Great Temple of Ramses II is the most iconic structure at Abu Simbel, with four colossal statues of Ramses II sitting at the entrance. The temple was carved into the sandstone cliffs and is dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and Ramses II himself.
Your guide will explain the fascinating history behind the temple, including how it was relocated in the 1960s to avoid being submerged by the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
Inside the temple, you'll see beautiful reliefs and carvings depicting Ramses II's military victories, especially the Battle of Kadesh.
8:30 AM – Explore the Small Temple of Nefertari
Duration: 45 minutes
The smaller temple is dedicated to Nefertari, Ramses II’s favorite queen, and the goddess Hathor. It’s notable for its stunning reliefs, including several depictions of Nefertari with the goddess Hathor.
The temple is less crowded than the larger one, offering a more intimate exploration experience.
9:15 AM – Free Time for Photos and Exploration
Duration: 30 minutes
After visiting both temples, you’ll have some free time to take more photos, explore the area, and enjoy the stunning views of Lake Nasser.
The site also offers a small visitor center where you can purchase souvenirs.
9:45 AM – Depart from Abu Simbel
Duration: 3 to 4 hours drive back to Aswan
After exploring Abu Simbel, you’ll return to your vehicle and begin your drive back to Aswan.
Your guide will provide additional information about the history and significance of the area as you travel back.
2:00 PM – Return to Hotel in Aswan
Arrival: You should arrive back at your hotel in Aswan by mid-afternoon, around 2:00 or 3:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to relax after the long trip
