Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Nepal!

You will arrive at the airport in Kathmandu.

Next, we will take you to the home of a local Nepali family. You will stay with them. This is a time to get settled in. You will meet your hosts and have your first taste of their food. They will likely serve dal bhat, a dish of rice and lentil soup.

Day 2: Culture and Project Talk

Today is all about getting ready. You will learn some basic Nepali words. We will teach you about local customs. You will learn what to do and what not to do. We will also talk about safety and how schools work in Nepal.

We will go over the specific needs of your school. This will help you plan your first few lessons. We will make sure you feel ready and sure of yourself.

Day 3: Your First Day at School

The time has come to meet your students. We will go with you to the school. You will meet the headmaster and other teachers.

First, you will watch other classes. You might help a local teacher. You could help small groups with their speaking and new words. This gives you a feel for what the classroom is like.

Days 4-6: Working in the Classroom

You will volunteer for about 4-5 hours each day. You will get more duties as you feel more confident. You might lead your own classes. You can plan fun learning games. You could also help with homework and introduce new things like drawing or singing.

The main goal is to make learning English a good time for the students. Afternoons are yours. You can explore the area or get your lessons ready for the next day.

Day 7: Weekend Trip to Old Cities

Your first weekend is for seeing new things. You will have a guided trip to two old places. First, you will go to Kathmandu Durbar Square. This is the old city center, full of ancient palaces and temples. You will see beautiful old buildings and wood carvings.

Then, you will visit Swayambhunath Stupa. This is also called the "Monkey Temple." It sits on a hill and gives you a full view of the valley below.

Day 8: Free Day

You get a day to relax. You can go to the busy markets of Thamel. You can visit the holy Pashupatinath Temple. Or you can just stay at home and rest with your host family. If you want, we can help you set up a short hike in the nearby hills.

Days 9-13: Building on Your Work

By your second week, you will feel a deeper link with the students and the town. You can take on more jobs. Maybe you will start a small art project for the school. Or maybe a pen-pal program. This is when you will see real growth in the students' skills and how they feel about themselves.

In the evenings, you will spend time with your family. You will share stories and have fun with them.

Day 14: A Goodbye from the Heart

Your last day at the school will be full of emotion. The students and staff will have a small party to thank you for your time. After you say goodbye, you will have one last dinner with your family.

You will leave with a heart full of good memories.
