Magical Hermanus..the "Riviera of the South"
No visit to the Cape town region is complete without experiencing the soothing 90 minute road trip out to Hermanus, renown for its "Champagne"fresh air" and some of the best land-based whale watching in the world(June- Dec). Even out of whale season simply relaxing sipping a coffee at a streetside cafe or lounging at the beach sipping a cocktail is all it takes to recharge..the kind of place where doing less is more..
I will collect you at 8:00 am, where after we’ll make our way along the N2 freeway passing the beautiful town of Somerset West, so popular with expats. Here we cross over the Hottentots Holland Mountain range via Sir Lowry’s Pass, taking in the breathtaking views of greater Cape town before driving through the scenic Elgin valley, the "Apple Kingdom" of South Africa.
After a quick coffee stop at a popular farm stall we will descend to the coast. After parking we will casually stroll along a neatly maintained coastal foot path, very likely seeing the Southern Right Whales playing with their young calves. We will then explore the quaint village on foot, browse the local market and local boutiques, before settling down for a light lunch at the water’s edge.
After lunch we’ll take a drive by the local beaches and then head to the Hemel en Aarde Valley to visit a few a few of the regions finest wineries (or craft gin tasting).
As the sun lowers in the sky we will stop for one last photo stop to snap a few last pics of this beautiful region.
Finally we’ll head back along scenic Clarence Drive, a stunning stretch of mountain pass with breath-taking views of the azure ocean below, passing a few more coastal towns before heading home back onto the N2..
