Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda - Akagera National Park

En route, marvel at Rwanda's scenic beauty and anticipate the incredible wildlife awaiting you. Check into your lodge and prepare for an unforgettable exploration of Akagera's birdlife.

Day 2: Full Day Birding in Akagera NP

Embark on a full day of birding in Akagera National Park, home to over 500 bird species. Delve deeper into the park's diverse habitats, from swamps to savannahs, as you seek out rare avian treasures. Keep your binoculars ready for sightings of the elusive shoebill, Papyrus Gonolek, and a myriad of other winged wonders.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes NP

After a leisurely breakfast, depart for Volcanoes National Park, enjoying scenic vistas along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon and take in the serene surroundings. Rest and recharge for the thrilling gorilla trekking experience ahead.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes NP

Rise early for an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure in the misty forests of Volcanoes National Park. With the guidance of experienced rangers, journey into the heart of the park to encounter these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Marvel at their grace and power as you observe them up close, a truly awe-inspiring experience.

Day 5: Birding to Nyungwe Forest NP

Bid farewell to Volcanoes NP as we journey south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, soak in the scenic beauty of Rwanda's countryside and stop at birding hotspots along the way. Arrive at Nyungwe in the afternoon and unwind amidst the tranquility of the forest.

Day 6: Birding in Nyungwe Forest NP

Embark on a full day of birding in Nyungwe Forest, home to over 270 bird species. Explore the diverse habitats of this ancient rainforest, from misty montane forests to bamboo thickets, in search of endemic and migratory birds. Keep your eyes peeled for rare sightings and enjoy the symphony of bird calls echoing through the canopy.

Day 7: Further Birding in Nyungwe

Continue your birding adventure in Nyungwe Forest, focusing on areas you may have missed the previous day. Explore new trails and hidden corners of the forest, expanding your bird checklist and encountering unique species. As night falls, keep an eye out for nocturnal birds such as the Rwenzori Nightjar and Albertine Owlet.

Day 8: Drive to Kigali, Birding & Cultural Visits

Depart Nyungwe Forest in the morning and journey back to Kigali. Along the way, visit birding spots near Kigali and explore cultural sites such as the Murambi Genocide Memorial and the National Museum. Relax and reflect on your journey during your final night in Rwanda.

Day 9: Departure

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a leisurely morning in Kigali before transferring to Kigali International Airport for your departure. If time allows, explore Kigali's vibrant streets or shop for souvenirs before bidding farewell to Rwanda.
