Elmina, located in the Central Region of Ghana, holds a significant place in history and offers unique aspects that make it special:

Elmina was the site of the first European settlement in West Africa. The Portuguese built St. George's Castle (Elmina Castle) in 1482, making it the oldest European structure south of the Sahara.

Elmina became a major hub for the transatlantic slave trade after the Dutch took control in 1637. For centuries, enslaved Africans were held in the castle's dungeons before being shipped across the Atlantic.

Elmina was controlled by the Portuguese, then the Dutch, and finally the British, each leaving their mark on the town's history and architecture. Elmina Castle is the oldest surviving European building in sub-Saharan Africa.

Elmina is still a lively fishing town, with colorful boats filling its harbor. The daily activities of the fishermen and the bustling fish market offer a glimpse into the local culture and economy.

We have a Dutch cemetery, a reminder of the Dutch presence in Elmina.

Benya lagoon has a unique ecosystem with direct access to the ocean, supporting a rich mangrove system and diverse birdlife. It's also a site for traditional salt production. We can take canoe rides through the lagoon if you want it.

My concern is for budget-conscious travelers. I want everyone to save some money at the end of the tour, so it's all about going local!!
