Dara peaks (Heart of Făgăraș)
Embark on a journey into the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains, where every step takes you deeper into the raw beauty of the wild. Our adventure begins at the Valea Sâmbetei refuge, with a gentle walk through the forest before the trail suddenly opens into wide alpine meadows. From here, the path rises steeply toward the Fereastra Mare a Sâmbetei, climbing to 2,148 meters. The ascent is demanding but deeply rewarding, as the horizon expands around you with every breath.
Once on the ridge, a spectacular panorama unfolds — vast views stretching both to the right and the left, peaks and valleys weaving into the distance. Ahead, the silhouette of Dara Peak rises proudly, while behind us the mighty Moldoveanu, Romania’s highest peak, reminds us of the mountains’ grandeur. As we approach Dara, another hidden treasure reveals itself: Hartopul Dara, quietly waiting just beyond, a secret summit tucked behind its larger sibling.
At times, the mountains are wrapped in fog, and the world outside disappears. No grand views, no wide horizons — only silence, your breath, and the rhythm of your steps. These days are invitations to look inward, to find the vastness within yourself rather than around you.
The full hike measures 24 km with 1,550 meters of elevation gain. It can be adjusted to be slightly shorter or longer depending on the group, but even in its shortest version it remains a challenging and demanding route, suitable for those ready for a true mountain experience.
The price is 60 EUR per person and includes guiding throughout this unforgettable journey above the clouds.
