Tour Cide 29= 6 days/ 5night tours for lake Tana Churches and monastries

This trip is mainly focuse on exploring churches and monastries of lake Tana, the largest fresh water lake in Ethiopia formed by ancient volcanic activities. The lake hosts more than 39 islands and monastries on which many of them are dated back to the 13th and 14th Cs. They are still an active worshiping sanctuaries of Ethiopian Orthodox religion served as a refuge for monks and nuns who are secluded themselves from earthly life.

ITINERARY

Day 1- Addis Ababs-Bahirdar.

Early breakfast and fly to Bahirdar. Balance of the day, drive to Blue Nile falls. Walk for about 1 and half hour to the entire falls then return to Bahirdar. O/n hotel

Day 2- Bahirdar -Gorgora

Take early breakfast then embark on for the whole day boat ride on Lake Tana. Our first stop would be at the monastry of Ura Kidane- Mihiret and Mehal Zege Ghiorgis (the church of St. George). Take picnick lunch on the boat then proceed to the Monastry of Narga Selassie, one of the most beautiful churchs on lake Tana in terms of painting and architecture. Vist the church then heading to Gorgora where we are staying for 2 nights. O/ n Gorgora resort.

Day 3- Gorgora

Today, we will have a day trip on lake Tana for another churches and monastries. Take breakfast then depart for the Monastry of Mendaba Medhanial, Gellila and Birgida Mariam both located on the northern shore of lake Tana, just a short boat ride from Gorgora. They are known for ancient biblical manuscripts and ecclesiastical objects. Back to hotel then in the afternoon, walk/drive to Debre-Sina monastry, another beautiful and historical church, decorated with mural paintings. O/n Gorgora resort.

Day 4- Gorgora-Gondar

Early breakfast then drive north to Gondar noted for its Medival history, Art, trade and religious activities. In the afternoon, take city tour and visit: the royal enclosure equiped with both ruins and well preserved castles, bath of king Fasiledes & Debrebirhan Sillassie church.

Day 5- Gondar-Simen Mountains NP-Gondar.

Second night in Gondar with day trip to Simen mountains NP. Early breakfast then drive to Debark where the HQ of the is located. Pick local guides and scouts then proceed for half day hiking through the besutiful mountain escarpments. On the way, meet with troops of endemic Gelada Baboons living mostly in the Ethiopian highlands. After picnic lunch, drive back to Gondar with stop over at the former village of Ethiopian Jewishes. O/ n hotel

Day 6-Gondar Addis Ababa.

Fly to Addis Ababa and take city a and visit National museum of Ethiopia where the 3.2 myo Lucy is displayed; Trinity Cathedral; Markato, the biggest open air market in Africa, mount Entoto and more. Finally drop you at your hotel or airport for your next flight. End of our service.
