Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a rewarding adventure! 7-day itinerary using the Machame Route, one of the most popular paths:
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
- Elevation: 1,640 m to 2,835 m
- Duration: 5-7 hours
- Hike through lush rainforests.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
- Elevation: 2,835 m to 3,840 m
- Duration: 4-6 hours
- Ascend to Shira Plateau with views of the summit.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
- Elevation: 3,840 m to 3,960 m
- Duration: 6-8 hours
- Climb to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Elevation: 3,960 m to 4,035 m
- Duration: 4-5 hours
- Navigate the Barranco Wall; short hiking day for acclimatization.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- Elevation: 4,035 m to 4,640 m
- Duration: 4-5 hours
- Begin the trek to Barafu Camp, prepare for summit attempt.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then to Mweka Camp
- Elevation: 4,640 m to 5,895 m (summit) and then down to 3,100 m
- Duration: 12-15 hours total
- Summit at dawn, then descend to Mweka Camp.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
- Elevation: 3,100 m to 1,640 m
- Duration: 3-4 hours
- Celebrate your accomplishment at the gate!
