3 Days / 2 Nights Itinerary from Marrakech to Fez
Day 01: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
We will start the 3 days tour from Marrakech to Fez by crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’tichka pass (2,260 m altitude). On the way, we will visit an Argan oil cooperative and then the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987. Next, we will head to Ouarzazate to explore the film studios, known as the Hollywood of Africa, where many movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. Afterward, we will visit the Amerhidil Kasbah in Skoura and the Valley of Roses in El Kelaa M’gouna. We will continue to the Dades Valley to check in at an accommodation in the Dades Mountains, where we will spend the night.
Day 02: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Desert
The 3 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fez continues with a stop at the Todra Gorges. We will visit the rock formation site and then drive to explore the oasis of Todra Gorges, famous for its high cliffs that attract climbers with a canyon in the middle. We will also visit a Berber clothing cooperative in Toudra and enjoy lunch overlooking palm trees. On the way to the Merzouga desert, we will see an irrigation system. Upon arrival, you will start a camel trekking adventure in the Sahara. The sunset view is one of the highlights of the journey to the camp. After dinner, locals will entertain you with drum music around the fire under the starry sky.
Day 03: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fez
After breakfast, we will drive through Erfoud and Errachidia via the Ziz Valley. The Ziz River originates in the Middle Atlas Mountains and runs about 282 kilometers before disappearing into the Sahara Desert in Algeria. Along the way, you will see palm groves and other crops. We will stop in Midelt for lunch. Located at the foot of Mount Ayachi, Midelt is known for its apple orchards and is Morocco’s leading apple producer, hosting the Apple Festival in October. It is also an important market for stone, fossils, and minerals, particularly vanadinite.
We will then pass through Azrou, which means “stone” in Berber. It is a major handicraft center known for cedar woodwork. We will stop in the famous cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques. In the afternoon, we will reach Ifrane, a mountain town 65 kilometers south of Fez, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its clean streets, greenery, lakes, Alpine-style houses, and a ski resort. Finally, we will arrive in Fez, where you will be transferred to your hotel or riad, marking the end of our 3 days tour from Marrakech to Fez through the desert.
