Experience the grand elegance of Arad, a city where the Austro-Hungarian past meets a vibrant Romanian present. This tour is designed for travelers who want to go beyond the surface and see the city through the eyes of a local who loves the city’s architectural evolution.

The Itinerary

Stop 1: The Gateway (Piața Avram Iancu & The Theatre)

● The Story: We begin at the Ioan Slavici Classical Theatre, a neoclassical masterpiece. I’ll explain why Arad was the strategic "frontier" of the Empire and how this square served as the city's original heartbeat.

Stop 2: The Statue of Liberty

● The Story: The Statue of Liberty - erected in memory of the generals of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848/1849 and initially located behind the National Theater, relocated in 2004 to the Romanian-Hungarian Reconciliation Park

Stop 3: The Boulevard of Palaces (Bulevardul Revoluției)

● The Story: A stroll down one of Romania’s widest and grandest boulevards. We will stop at the Neumann Palace and the Szantay Palace. I’ll show you the hidden Art Nouveau (Secession) details—floral motifs and ironwork—that most people walk right past.

Stop 4: The Clock Tower & "Ode to Joy" (The Administrative Palace)

● The Story: We reach the City Hall (Administrative Palace). If we time it right, we’ll hear the clock tower play Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. I’ll share the history of the 54-meter tower and its Renaissance-revival style.

Stop 5: The Cultural Soul (The Cultural Palace & Park)

● The Story: A short detour to the Cultural Palace, a stunning mix of Neoclassical and

Gothic styles sitting right on the riverbank. We’ll discuss Arad's role as a multicultural hub for music and science.

Stop 6: The Red Church & The Modern Cathedral

● The Story: We compare two worlds: the Lutheran "Red Church" (Neo-Gothic brickwork) and the massive Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral, which represents the modern face of the city.

Stop 7: Riverside Wind-down (Mureș Promenade)

● The Story: We finish at the Mureș Riverbank, a favorite local hangout. I’ll give you my personal recommendations for the best coffee and local flavours in the city so you can continue your day like a true local.

Practical Information for Guests:

● What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, a camera, and a curiosity for history!

● Meeting Point: In front of the Classical Theatre. We will agree on the color of the jacket/T-shirt I will be wearing the night before so that you can recognize me more easily. We can discuss more details over the phone

● End Point: Near the Mureș Promenade/City Center
