FAMAGUSTA & GHOST TOWN TOUR
Today we are travelling to the east of the island. Our first stop will be at St. Barnabas Monastery. Barnabas was one of the Saints whom started spreading Christianity with St. Paul in Cyprus. His Tomb will be also visited which is under a carob tree in a cave at the same place . Salamis Ruins are also in the program with its Roman baths, Gymnasium and Theatres.The ruins dates back to 11BC and later on 7Ad it was demolished by earthquakes and Arrab raids. We shall have a swim break if its not winter in the beautiful golden sandy Mediterranean beach otherwise more time will be spent in the walled city of teh Medieval town of Famagusta. Who built St. Nicholas Cathedral? What did the Ottomans do when they took over Famagusta from the Venetians? You will learn all about the history while you get to take photos of this beautiful Medieval city. The last stop will be at Varosha. This place which was known as the French Riviera of Cyprus was abondend . After being closed for 46 years it has been opened recently.
