This is Ahmed. A guide and tour operator in Iraq. I previously worked as an English Conversation Coach. Being a history buff, I'm always excited to explore the heritage and archaeological sites in my Mesopotamian land, sharing the rich past of these places with my foreign guests.

The main attractions in Baghdad that you shouldn’t miss: The Iraqi National Museum with its trove of antique treasure; the famous al-Mutanabbi Book Market street, the intellectual hub of bibliophiles; the Antique Market; the Abbasid Palace on the Tigris river bank; Mustansiriyah School, one of the earliest universities in the world; the ancient stepped-pyramid temple of Dur-Kurigalzu Ziggurat built around 1400 BC; the largest arch of unreinforced brickwork in the world, Taq Kasra built in the 6th century BC; Firdos Square where Saddam’s tall statue stood before it was pulled down following the US-Led invasion; Freedom Monument and the bustling bazaars as well as old cafes and restaurants.

As for the other places beyond Baghdad: The Ruins of Babylon and the adjacent abandoned Saddam’s Palace; the Ziggurat of Ur and the largest wetlands in the Middle East, the Chibayish Marshes where the local community dwell in reed houses and rely on water buffalos for their livelihood; the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf and their shrines; Wadi Al-Salam graveyard, the largest in the world; the iconic Spiral Minaret and the other UNESCO Heritage Sites in Samarra; Basra Shanasheel Houses; the ancient ruins of Hatra in Musul; the 4th century Mar Mattai Monastery; the Assyrian archaeological sites in Nineveh and possibly one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited human settlements, Erbil Citadel located in Kurdistan semiautonomous region.
