Eger is ideal for those wishing to escape the big city vibe of the capital.

With plenty things to see, today's Eger was formed in the 10th century by St. Stephen (997–1038), the first Christian king of Hungary, who founded an episcopal see here. The first cathedral was built on Castle Hill, within the present site of the Castle. Eger grew up around its former cathedral and has remained a religious centre in Hungary since its foundation.

The town and the surrounding region is well-known for its wines. For over 1000 years the population of the region has produced grapes and excellent wines, such as Egri Bikavér (Bull's Blood) which has long been Hungary's most recognized red wine. The famous white wines of the region are based on local varieties, like Egri Leányka, Olaszrizling, and Debrői Hárslevelű. The oldest wine-cellars are more than 400 years old in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman (Szépasszonyvölgy), where our wine tasting and lunch will be.
