Dubai Street Food Tour

Language English
Cost 95 USD for tour/excursion
Capacity 1 person
Duration 3 hours

A culinary walk through the alleyways and markets on the banks of Dubai Creek. The Dubai Creek is a natural seawater inlet and the reason why a settlement started forming here once upon a time when the pearl trade was booming.

Dubai has so much more to offer than just glitz and glamour and during the Dubai Street Food Tour you will not only discover the traditional side of this exciting city, you will also get to smell and taste it.

The Creek is the heart and lifeline of the city. This is where it all began and it is important to see and experience it, because only then can you understand that Dubai and the entire region has a very rich heritage and history.

We meet at the main entrance of Dubai Museum (Al Fahidi Fort) in Bur Dubai at 5 pm. Taxi drivers know this location and the nearest Metro station is Sharaf DG, only 5 - 7 minutes by walk.

Our stroll leads us through an Indian market. The Indian influence is strong and the trade with India goes back several centuries. Textiles, food stuff, building materials and gold were imported while the pearls from the Arabian Gulf were sold in exchange. So it is only natural that the local cuisine has more than just a touch of Indian flavors. On our way through the textile market we sample typical Indian street snacks before crossing the Creek via Abra, a wooden water taxi.

On the other side, we sample something refreshing to wake up your taste buds before going into the traditional spice market. The spice market is a good opportunity to buy things that are not "Made in China" like for example: frankincense, myrrh, soap made from camel milk, chocolate made from camel milk, saffron, vanilla fresh from Madagascar or exotic spice mixes.

The most popular street food is Shawarma and you will get to try it of course. At the end of our tour we visit the oldest Persian family restaurant known for sheep kebabs marinated in yogurt and a secret mix of spices.
