Day 01: Arrive Kigali International Airport.

Morning hours, arrival into Kigali International Airport; Meet & Greet Services, followed by airport transfer.

Depart the airport, drive through Kigali City and head north – to the Volcanoes Mountains. 95km, 2.5hrs

Arrive at the volcanoes base town of Musanze in mid-morning/early afternoon.

Brief stop-over visit of the Dian Fossey Museum & Foundation.

Shortly after, proceed to your lodge – for check-in and lunch. Afternoon, at leisure at your lodge.

Day 02: 06.00am: Early breakfast at your lodge; 06.45am: Transfer to the park reception – for check-in/allocation of the gorilla family to visit, followed by briefing, on the trek procedures, as well as the Dos & Don'ts while in the presence of the gorillas.

Morning, enjoy the ultimate adventure - Mountain Gorilla trekking, in the Volcanoes Forest.

After the trek, drive back to your lodge – for freshening up and lunch.

Afternoon, at leisure at your lodge – as you re-live the fresh memories of the close encounter with the gorillas; Or,

Take up an optional activity, such as a cultural village visit.

Day 03: Breakfast at your lodge.

Spend a full day in the volcanoes region – under the spell and tranquility of the Volcanoes Mountains, with opportunity for a 2nd gorilla trek, in the morning.

Afternoon, you may wish to take a country-side drive and visit of the spectacularly beautiful and picturesque Twin Lakes of Burera & Ruhondo.

Evening at leisure at your lodge, with dinner included.

Day 04 Breakfast at your lodge.

Spend the morning part of the day at leisure at the volcanoes region – with opportunity for optional activity, such as:

• Golden Monkeys Trek – trekking the only other member of the primate species, residing in the volcanoes forest.

• Same procedures as for the gorilla trek, applies

Freshening up and lunch at your lodge, followed by check-out.

Afternoon, depart the volcanoes region and head west – to the shores of Lake Kivu (forming Rwanda’s western border with DR Congo). 65km, 1.5hrs

Arrive at the lake-shore town of Gisenyi in the late afternoon – to an orientation drive-through and passing close to the Rwanda/DR Congo border point of Goma.

Then, proceed to your lake-shore hotel – for check-in and evening at leisure, with dinner included.

Days 05 & 06 Spend two full days at leisure, at the shores of Lake Kivu – with optional activities, as may be arranged through the hotel reception, or discussed with your driver-guide. All meals at your hotel.

Morning, depart north Lake Kivu and head south-wards – parrallel to the shores of Lake Kivu and past the central Lake Kivu town of Kibye, to Nyungwe Forest. 250km, 3.5hrs

Arrive at your Nyungwe lodge in the early afternoon – for check-in and lunch.

Afternoon, at leisure at your lodge – with opportunity for optional activities, such as:

Canopy Adventure Hike; Black & White Colobus Monkeys Trek, or Tropical Waterfalls Hike

Evening at leisure at your lodge, with dinner included.

Day 08 Early breakfast at the lodge (or carry packed breakfast);

Early morning, enjoy the Chimpanzee Trek, in Nyungwe Forest.

After your one-hour encounter with the chimps, returning to the hotel for freshening up and lunch.

Afternoon, at leisure at your lodge – relax at the lodge, or take up an optional activity, as described above.

Mid-morning, depart the Nyungwe Forest region and head north, destined for Kigali. 260km, 5.0hrs

• En-route, stop-over visit of Rwanda’s Historic & Cultural Towns of Butare & Nyanza, with lunch at Butare.

Nyanza: King’s Palace (traditional) & National Arts Museum

Later in the afternoon, return to Kigali – for check-in at your Kigali hotel, for evening at leisure, with dinner on own account.

Day 11 Breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out.

Morning, depart Kigali and head east of the country – to the Akagera National Park (forming Rwanda’s eastern border with Tanzania). 150km, 2.5hrs

The park is popular for savannah wildlife and now a proud member of the BIG FIVE host countries – the only park in Rwanda where you can do game-drives, others being mountain/forest parks.

Check-in and lunch at your lodge, and then an afternoon game-viewing drive.

Optional Activities: *Provided by the park management

• Scheduled Sunset Boat Ride (4.30pm – 5.30pm);

• Scheduled Night Game Drive (From 5.30pm, for 02hours);

Morning,depart the Akagera National Park and drive back to Kigali – for orientation tour of Kigali City, including a visit of the Genocide Memorial Centre & the Liberation Museum.

Lunch at the Hotel Mille Collines - featured in the film “Hotel Rwanda”, regarding the 1994 Rwanda Genocide Against the Tutsis.

Later in the afternoon, your driver-guide will transfer you to the Kigali International Airport, for your evening outbound flight.

Important Tips – Trek preparations

Volcanoes & Nyungwe forests are high altitude areas of over 2,400 meters above sea level.

It is extremely chilly in the early mornings and evenings - warm clothing is therefore necessary.

While trekking, it can rain unexpectedly – it is necessary therefore to have:

• Water-proof clothing (jacket, with hood + trousers);

• Waterproof Zip-Lock bags for Cameras/Film/Passports/Money, e.t.c.;

• Hand Gloves (warm and water-proof), to keep hands off from rain and dripping vegetation;

as well as protect from stinging nettles;

• Hiking boots - with good mud-grip are most appropriate, especially in wet weather;

• Gaiters – to protect your trek trouser legs and boots against mud/wetness;

• Small hand/face towel, to wipe sweat off your face during the trek.
