Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu to Tarkeghyang

Your trip starts with an early drive from Kathmandu. The road takes you away from the busy city. You will see the calm fields and hills of Nepal. The drive to Talamarang, where your walk begins, takes about 4 to 5 hours. After a quick lunch in Talamarang, you start your climb.

The path goes through farm fields cut into hillsides. You will pass small villages. You will also walk through thick green forests. This is a steady climb. It helps you get ready for the days ahead. The air grows cooler as you gain height. You might hear birds singing in the trees. After about 4 to 5 hours of walking, you will reach the lovely Hyolmo village of Tarkeghyang. This is where you will stay for the night. The village has old houses and a peaceful feel. You can see local life up close.

Day 2: The Climb to Ama Yangri Peak

This is the day you have been waiting for. You will start your walk well before the sun comes up. Headlamps will light your way in the dark. The goal is to reach the top of Ama Yangri peak just as the sun's first golden light touches the Himalayas. The walk up is hard but very worth it.

As you climb higher, the trees become thinner. The views get better and better. You will feel the quiet of the mountains around you. Reaching the top at 3,771 meters is a moment of wonder. Prayer flags wave in the wind. You can see a full circle of snow-covered giant peaks. The air is thin and cold, but the sight warms you. You will see the Langtang range close by. Farther off, you might spot Gaurishankar and Dorje Lhakpa. On a very clear day, a tiny bit of Mount Everest might show itself.

After spending enough time at the top, you will start walking back down to Tarkeghyang. The path down is easier. You can enjoy the views you missed in the dark morning. The rest of the day is for resting. You can also celebrate reaching the top. Local food tastes even better after such a climb.

Walk Time: 6-7 hours (up and back)

Day 3: Return to Kathmandu

After a last, big mountain breakfast, you will say goodbye to Tarkeghyang. The walk back down to Talamarang is much easier and faster. You will follow the same path. This time, you will see the land from a new angle. You can notice details you missed on the way up. The sun will be higher, lighting up the valleys.

Once you reach Talamarang, your car will be waiting. It will drive you back to Kathmandu. This ends your memorable 3-day Ama Yangri Trek. You will carry with you the calm of the mountains and the warm memories of the Hyolmo people. The drive back gives you time to think about your adventure.
