The Tretyakov gallery is the largest collection of Russian art. This museum is very dear and close to all Russian people, as it displays the paintings they have grown up with.

The gallery started as a private collection of Moscow textile industrialist Pavel Tretyakov. In 1892 he donated his paintings to the city.

To avoid fakes Pavel Tretyakov acquired the canvases directly from their creators. He was on friendly terms with all best Russian artists of his time, and a number of canvases in his collection were made to order. For artists it was a great honor too if their works were bought by Tretyakov for the gallery.

Over the time the museum acquired new and new paintings. The collection expanded so much, that several reconstructions of the original building were held and a few more edifices were put up in order to place all the exhibits.

In Lavrushinsky pereulok (lane) 10 you will find some most valued old icons and also works of all genres and directions of the Russian painting school from the late 16th to the early 20th century.

A visit to the gallery is highly recommended and will bring you true enjoyment!

The price above includes entrance tickets for 5 people and the guide's services. The price will be smaller if there are fewer people in the group.
